As more and more events are being organised locally, Nub News is launching a new weekly round up of what's on in Shepton Mallet each weekend.

Every Thursday we will now bring you our top picks of the events in our What's On section for the coming weekend.

And don't forget, if your business or organisation is running an event, you can advertise it for free with Shepton Mallet Nub News.

Here are our top event picks for the coming days:

1. SMart (Shepton Mallet Arts and Culture) Social with talk from Rev Gill Sakakini

Pioneer priest in the arts and SMart director, Rev Gill Sakakini, will start the evening with a talk in which she will share a visual overview of her creative practice, particularly as it relates to forming community and developing engagement with the arts in specific cultural contexts.

She will highlight aspects of her artistic process - how ideas are developed and landed, and ways in which she sees her role contributing to the scope of arts and culture in Shepton Mallet. There will be opportunities for questions and discussion.

You will also have the chance to meet other artists and practitioners from the local area (writers, sculptors, photographers, sound engineers, musicians, dancers, performers, comedians... etc!) at this friendly open event.

2. Shepton Mallet Prison Ghost Hunt

Your ghost hunt at Shepton Mallet will be nothing but intense.

With the overriding emotions here being that of sheer survival, basic instincts and challenging behaviours, it makes sense that these emotions are still entrenched within the fabric of the building.

This is a ghost hunt where you will definitely need your wits about you.
