Shepton Mallet Town Council Chairman's Column: Details of Remembrance Sunday events

As we all reflect today, Armistice Day, an opportunity to remember the service and sacrifice of all those that have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life, I'm sure everyone is looking forward to paying their respects at this year's Remembrance Sunday Service and Parade at the Cenotaph.

The service, led by the Royal British Legion, will begin at around 10:45, with the public asked to assemble from 10:30. The Town Council would like to take this chance to thank the Shepton Mallet Army Cadets, who are volunteering their time to complete a litter pick of the Cenotaph and the immediate surrounding area on Saturday November 13th.

In order to brighten the rest of winter, the Town Council is supporting a large number of organisations and events in the town through the 'Winter Series'. There is a wide-ranging programme of over 40 events, with something for everyone! The varied programme ranges from arts & crafts, talent shows, public performances, Christmas Markets, art exhibitions, carol services, walks, runs, nativity plays and much, much more!

Kicking off with Literally Shepton, our town's very own literary festival, the programme of events runs all the way through to April next year! Some events of particular note on the programme, organised by local community groups and organisations include: Window Wanderland, The Lantern Festival and no less than two separate Christmas Markets with guest appearances from Santa and the Fairy Godmother!

Check out the Town Council's website at: sheptonmallet-tc.gov.uk/winter for more information about all of the events including where necessary, how to book your space.

Until next time,

Matt Harrison

Chair, Shepton Mallet Town Council
