Shepton Mallet Prison, in collaboration with Alabaré charity, is proud to present Art Behind Bars, an innovative art exhibition running until 9th June. The exhibition features over 200 paintings created by prisoners, offering a unique glimpse into the transformative power of arts programmes within UK prisons.
These programmes are crucial in the rehabilitation process, supporting individuals in their efforts to move away from criminal behaviour. By fostering personal growth, empathy, and stronger family connections, they contribute to the successful reintegration of inmates into society.
Additionally, providing a positive outlet for self-expression creates safer environments within prisons, benefiting both inmates and staff and helping to break the cycle of crime.
Art Behind Bars showcases the impact of these programmes, highlighting stories of resilience and redemption depicted through the artists' work. Entry to the exhibition is free, with optional tours and activities available for those seeking a deeper understanding.
