Shepton Mallet Town Council is extending an open call to its community for design ideas for a new shelter in Collett Park.
As part of an initiative launched earlier this Spring, the Council allocated a budget of up to £6,000 for the development and construction of a new shelter located near the park's pond.
Currently, Collett Park hosts only one shelter, situated near the table tennis and table football area. With this initiative, the Council aims to expand public amenities and improve the overall visitor experience.
The Council is keen to include the public in this initiative, inviting residents to submit their ideas and contribute to shaping the park's aesthetic and functional elements. These ideas will be refined into a final design, which will then be commissioned for construction.
The proposed shelter's primary purpose will be to provide a refuge from the rain and accommodate between 6 and 10 people. From a security standpoint, the design should ensure good visibility both into and out of the shelter. The Council anticipates the new amenity will serve a diverse range of park users, including model boaters, bird watchers, park runners, artists, exercise classes, and casual strollers.
Residents interested in participating in this public initiative are invited to email their design ideas to [email protected].
The submission deadline is July 31, 2023. All queries regarding the project can also be directed to this email address.
Inclusion in this project represents a unique opportunity for locals to have a direct impact on their community space.
The Council encourages everyone to consider participating, regardless of design experience. Together, the Shepton Mallet community can shape Collett Park into an even more welcoming and inclusive space for all.
