Two months on, still no start date for Pike Hill wall repairs near Shepton Mallet

Temporary traffic lights remain in place on the A371 Pike Hill more than two months after a partial wall collapse near Shepton Mallet – and there's still no confirmed date for when full repair work will begin.
The wall, located on a key route between Shepton and Wells, partially collapsed earlier this year.
Since then, the road has been under traffic control, causing regular delays during morning and afternoon peak times.
Somerset Council has now confirmed it will carry out urgent temporary repairs to allow the road to fully reopen in time for Glastonbury Festival, which begins on 26 June. However, a longer-term solution is still being assessed.
A spokesperson for Somerset Council said: "Our team will be carrying out urgent temporary repairs of the wall in time for Glastonbury Festival traffic, to allow the road to be fully open. Work is ongoing to look at a permanent solution."
No further details have been given about the cause of the delay to repairs or the expected timescale for a full fix.
The A371 is a main route for both local traffic and festival-goers heading to Worthy Farm, and the temporary lights have led to congestion and disruption for nearby residents.
The council has not confirmed whether the road will need to close again once a permanent repair plan is in place.
