Firefighters had to put out a tractor on fire in Batcombe yesterday (July 22).

Just before 6.15pm, calls reporting a tractor on fire on Crow's Hill in Batcombe came into Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Control and as a result two fire appliances from Castle Cary and Shepton Mallet, together with a water carrier from Yeovil, were mobilised to deal with it.

However, on arrival of the first appliance from Castle Cary, they confirmed this was a small fire on the underside of the engine compartment and stood down the remaining crews.

The fire, which started accidentally, was extinguished using one hose reel jet and caused minimal damage. Once the vehicle was made safe, duty of care was left the farmer.
