Toolstation could be coming to Shepton Mallet after planning application is approved

Building supplies company Toolstation could be coming to Shepton Mallet after the firm was given approval for a planning application in the town.

The application was for the change of use from Class A1 (Shops) to Class A1 (Shops)/B8 (Storage or Distribution) at 7 Townsend Shopping Park, Townsend, Shepton Mallet.

The plans are for the former Carphone Warehouse building next to Costa Coffee, which is currently unoccupied.

Speaking to Shepton Mallet Nub News, a spokesperson for Toolstation confirmed the application but said it was still very early days in the company's plans to come to the town.

Planning applications in the Shepton Mallet area that have been submitted to Mendip District Council this week include:

Erection of a stable block and creation of concrete apron at Scarlet Withies, Worminster Lane, North Wootton, has been applied for by Mr and Mrs P and S Uphill.

Construction of external ramping and boundary wall infill at 24 Town Street, Shepton Mallet, is wanted by Carol Plenty.

Proposed erection of an eco barn dwelling at Pippit Barn, Lipyeate Cross to Luckington Cross, Coleford, has been applied for by Mr Woodall.

Prior approval for a proposed change of use of agricultural building to a dwellinghouse (Class C3) at Southill Farm, Southill House to Hemberton Cottage, Cranmore, is wanted by Mr Tom Ayles.

Planning applications in the Shepton Mallet area that have been decided by Mendip District Council this week include:

Application for outline planning permission with some matters reserved for the erection of a dwelling with details of access at 7 Sunnymead, Oakhill, by Mr Rogers has been approved.

Works to trees covered by Preservation Orders T1 - ash tree - M1046 - fell due to ash die back at Goodwood, Charlton Road, Holcombe, by Mrs C Griffin have been approved.

Erection of multi-purpose farm storage, vehicle maintenance and administration building at Badgers Cross Farm, Zion Hill to Underhill, Ashwick, by Mr Mark Emery has been approved.

Retrospective (part) consent for internal and external alterations including replacement windows and consent for remedial works to alter previous alterations at Sidelands, Northtown Lane, North Wootton, by Mr and Mrs Duffell has been approved.

Application for approval of details reserved by condition 8 (Wildlife Protection), condition 9 (External Lighting) and condition 10 (Hard and Soft Landscaping) on planning approval 2019/1293/FUL at Meadow Farm, Fosse Road, Oakhill, by Mr Andrew Mortimore has been approved.

Works to trees covered by Preservation Orders T1 - lime - thinning of tree by 30 per cent by removing limbs no bigger than 10cm diameter and crown raise to 20ft at 8 Carlton Court, Princes Road, Shepton Mallet, by Mrs Carpenter have been approved.

Erection of double garage with store and workshop with home office above at Crooked House, Folly Lane, North Wootton, by Mr Curtis has been approved.

Erection of single storey rear extension following demolition of existing extension, associated internal alterations and landscaping at Field View, Zion Hill, Oakhill, by Mr Gary and Jennifer Pepler has been approved.

Application for a non-material amendment to permission 2019/2494/HSE for the alterations to fenestration and marginal increase in floor area at Weir Cottage, Weir Lane, Pilton, by Mr and Mrs Simon Coombes has been approved.
