Record numbers enjoy The Way We Were at East Somerset Railway

By Guest 16th Jul 2021

Superb weather and a wealth of displays and entertainments made The Way We Were a smash hit with the record-breaking number of visitors who came to the East Somerset Railway at Cranmore over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Vintage bus rides courtesy of Kelvin Amos were enjoyed by a large number of people who could enjoy a trip around the village or travel to and from Shepton Mallet or Wells to the event throughout the weekend.

US Army displays, Alan Connock's Road Menders, vintage cars, military vehicles thanks to Gordon Fry of West End Garage in Bruton, ARP hut, 1940s Police Station, 'bombed out' wartime family re-enactment, Land Girls At Large, a 'skirmish' on the railway line and a Victory Stores were just some of the displays for visitors to enjoy.

Dickie Lines MC'd the event and captivated the crowds on the platform with his songs while on Sunday afternoon the Harlem Rhythm Cats performed their boogie woogie and blues sound.

Steam trains were packed with visitors who could also look around the signal box, engine shed or try their hand driving a steam train with Driver For A Tenner.

Organisers are delighted at the success of the event and would like to thank everyone who participated and visited over the weekend.
