The National Health Service (NHS) is marking its 75th anniversary on Wednesday 5 July, and the commemoration promises to be a significant milestone.

To bring this celebration to life, the NHS is reaching out to the people of Shepton, asking them to share what the NHS means to them. These stories and memories of the NHS are being collected online, providing a unique platform for people to share their experiences.

They are encouraging those who were born the same year as its establishment or prior to it, to share their unique memories and experiences of the impact of this national health service on their lives and families.

They are also keen to hear from current and former NHS employees about their work, memories, and their love for the organisation, and are requesting photographs to illustrate their past and present experiences. Additionally, contributions are welcomed from everyone involved in supporting the NHS, including volunteers and the VCSE sector, recognising that everyone has a role to play. Heartfelt stories about why people love the NHS, how it has positively influenced their lives or those of their loved ones, and intriguing accounts – such as multiple generations of the same family born at the same hospital – are particularly sought after. Lastly, the NHS is interested in hearing reflections on its evolution over the past 75 years, and how technological or medical advancements have shaped the service.

This great British Institution is by our side during the most profound moments in our lives and at its heart, is driven by one collective ambition to care for patients."

"We are keen to hear from people who have worked or are working in the NHS, hear their stories and find out what makes them do what they do, as well hearing from local communities and volunteers about what the NHS means to them."

"Our Engagement team are passionate about connecting with local people and hearing their reflections first hand, so whether you used to work for the NHS, would like to share a story about the care you received or simply want to share some reflections on your hopes for the future - every story matters and we want to hear from you."

This collection will provide valuable insights into the experiences of people who have interacted with the NHS over the years. It may include stories of people who were born the year the NHS was founded, who remember the impact of its establishment, or who have worked within its system. Contributions from volunteers and those in the VCSE sector, who play crucial roles in supporting the NHS, are equally valued.
