THE Mid-Somerset Agricultural Society has announced plans to light a Beacon for The Queen's Platinum Jubilee on the evening of Thursday, June 2, 2022.

The Beacon is one of thousands being lit in the UK and the Commonwealth, and forms part of the official programme announced by Buckingham Palace for the Jubilee Weekend.

The Beacon will be lit at the Mid-Somerset Showground in Shepton Mallet and it will be one of over 2,022 lit by charities, communities, and faith groups all over the UK.

Graham Walton, Chairman of the Mid-Somerset Agricultural Society, said: "We're so proud to be part of this momentous celebration and honoured to play a part in this special event for Her Majesty, The Queen on her Platinum Jubilee."

As part of the Society's Jubilee Celebration on Thursday, June 2, celebrations will also include live music, a hog roast, a bar, and those wishing to join are welcome to bring a picnic. A local piper will begin the festivities at 9.35pm, followed by a choir performance.

The lighting of the beacon will take place at 9.45pm, and a firework display will conclude the evening at 10pm. The event is open to all and free to all. Parking is available on the Show Site. For more information please contact Christine Barham, Show Secretary of the Mid-Somerset Show, on 01749 938044.
