The Royal Bath and West Show, a venerated bastion of British agricultural traditions, is leading the charge in showing solidarity with Ukraine in its own unique way.

As one of England's oldest and most loved agricultural shows, The Royal Bath and West Show has used its platform to demonstrate support for Ukraine.

On 24 February 2022, Russia invaded and occupied parts of Ukraine in a major escalation of the Russo-Ukrainian War, which had begun in 2014. The invasion has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths on both sides, and instigated Europe's largest refugee crisis since World War II. About 8 million Ukrainians were displaced within their country by June, and more than 8.2 million had fled the country by May 2023.

In Somerset, many residents have opened their homes to Ukrainian refugees since the invasion took place. 

Under the Homes for Ukraine scheme, 745 people in Somerset have registered as hosts, and the county has welcomed 1,417 Ukrainian guests, with 253 guests from the Somerset scheme now moving on to live in their own homes in the UK.

As the quintessentially British Royal Bath and West Show got underway yesterday, it was clear that Ukraine close to people's hearts.

Prominently featured in the event is the Ukraine Sunflower, symbolically placed on the Main Lawn. This bright yellow beacon has become a photo opportunity for visitors who want to show their support for Ukraine. The sunflower, being the national flower of Ukraine, is known for its resilience and beauty, making it a poignant emblem of the spirit of the Ukrainian people.

Visitors to the show are encouraged to take pictures with the stunning sunflower display and share them on social media, spreading the message of solidarity far and wide. This move has amplified awareness and fostered a sense of global community.

The IMPs Motorbike Display Group, renowned for their high-octane performances, have also risen to the occasion in support of Ukraine.

In a symbolic act of solidarity, the Red Imps brandish the Ukrainian flag during their performance, while the Ukrainian national anthem plays. This stirring visual, combined with the national anthem, serves to honour Ukraine's culture and the resilience of its people.

The unique blend of agricultural tradition and thrilling performance art has effectively shown that The Royal Bath and West Show is not just about Britain's agricultural heritage but also about unity, understanding, and support for fellow nations.
