Three people have been arrested after police intercepted a stolen vehicle in Wells that was using cloned number plates.

Response officers from Shepton Mallet Team 3 stopped the vehicle on Sunday, 23 February, and subsequent checks revealed that it had been stolen from Wales a few days earlier. The discovery led to the arrest of three individuals on suspicion of multiple offences.

The suspects are facing allegations including theft of a motor vehicle, driving without a licence or insurance, drink driving, possession of a knife, and being equipped to steal. Police have not yet released further details about the individuals involved.

The vehicle has been recovered and will be returned to its rightful owner. Meanwhile, officers have confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing as they work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the theft and any potential links to wider criminal activity.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "This was an excellent example of proactive policing by our response officers, who acted swiftly to stop a stolen vehicle and take suspected offenders into custody. Investigations are continuing, and we encourage anyone with further information to come forward."

Members of the public with any information about vehicle thefts or related suspicious activity are urged to contact police on 101 or report it anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
