Steam dream for train enthusiasts at the ESR

The East Somerset Railway is gearing up for a fabulous Steam Gala to be held at Cranmore Station on 18th and 19th March.

GWR Large Prairie 4110 will be making its first appearance in steam since it was scrapped in 1965. The loco is on loan from Dartmouth Steam Railway and has been restored by volunteers at the ESR during the past three years. It will share passenger services at the Gala with resident locos Ivatt 46447 and GWR 4555.

Would-be train drivers can take the controls of Lady Nan for the 'Driver for a Tenner' Experience – tickets can be purchased at the Ticket Office.

The Miniature Railway, Engine Sheds and Signal Box will be open and Punch and Judy will be providing entertainment on both days.

Trains will run as follows:

  • 10.30 – 4110 – First Passenger Run
  • 11.20 – 46447 & 4555
  • 12.15 – 46447
  • 13.15 – 4110
  • 14.05 – 4555
  • 15.05 – 4555 & 4110 – 60th Anniversary Double Heading
  • 16.00 – 46447 & 4110

Demonstration freight trains going from the Depot (Engine Sheds) to the tanker sidings.

  • 12.00 – 4110 (to depot)
  • 12.55 – 4110 (to tanker sidings)
  • 14.45 – 46447 (to depot)

All subject to availability and late changes.

Standard Ticket prices apply for the Steam Gala: Adults £12, Concessions £11, Children £10, 2 Adult Family 2 Children £38 1 Adult Family Two Children £28 under 3s FREE.

PLEASE NOTE THE RAILWAY WILL NOT BE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC THE WEEKEND OF 11TH/12TH MARCH DUE TO ESSENTIAL MAINTENANCE WORK.
