CrossFit Mendip, located on the Maltings Trading Estate in Shepton Mallet, is quickly becoming a popular fitness destination for people of all ages and abilities.

Since taking over the business in August last year, Amy and Daryl Toogood, a husband and wife team, have transformed the gym into a welcoming community, attracting everyone from fitness newcomers to seasoned athletes. Amy, a former secondary school teacher, and Daryl, a former paramedic, have brought their passion for helping others into the fitness world.

"When we started, we had just 40 members, and by December that had grown to 100. Now, we're around 180," Amy said. "We've always been passionate about fitness, and it just clicked for us. I'm still teaching, but in a very different way now."

CrossFit Mendip offers a unique blend of fitness classes, including Olympic lifting, strength training, and cardio, all designed to make fitness both fun and accessible.

"We believe training should make you smile as much as it makes you sweat," said Amy. "Our goal is to help people be their best selves. Whether you're looking to lose weight, improve your fitness, or are an experienced CrossFit athlete wanting to take your training to the next level, we've got the coaches and community to support you."

One member who recently completed the gym's six-week challenge shared their experience:

"As we're now at the end of this six-week programme, I just want to thank all of you at CFM. I thought I would enjoy it, but in reality, it has been off the scale, so much better – and that comes with huge thanks to you and the community. The difference to both my mental and physical health feels clear after just six weeks. Becoming a member was an easy decision, and one I hope to continue benefiting from in the future. I cannot thank you, Amy, and all the team for making me feel so welcome and encouraging me to do my best and always push that little bit extra. I can't wait to see what the future holds."

The gym's focus on community truly sets it apart. Members aren't just there to work out – they form lasting friendships and support each other through every session. "It's not unusual to see two or three generations of the same family working out together at the same time," Amy explained. "We've really built a family vibe here. People look after each other, and we've seen so many people make new friendships through the gym. It's one big family."

CrossFit Mendip offers a variety of classes each day, with up to eight sessions available for adults starting as early as 6am. Their coaching team is there to ensure that members not only improve but also enjoy the process.

"Training in a group setting with a coach gives you that extra push and motivation," Amy added. "When you've got a coach encouraging you and a community cheering you on, it's amazing how much further you can go."

For those looking to start their fitness journey or simply try something new, CrossFit Mendip welcomes anyone to come and experience the atmosphere first-hand. "We're all about making fitness accessible and fun for everyone," Amy said. "Come for the fitness, stay for the community."
