What's on: Harvest beats to heartbeats: Shepton’s week of sound, craft and calm

What's On in Shepton Mallet is brought to you by the Bath & West Showground — home to the biggest events in Somerset — and La Bella Italian Restaurant, where every meal tastes like a holiday in Italy.
If you're in Shepton Mallet this week (25 September – 1 October), get ready for more than your average Saturday. The town is rubbing elbows with sound, creativity, nature and inner calm. Expect live festivals, hands‑on workshops and moments for reflection — just enough to make your week feel full without exhausting your weekend.

Thursday kicks in gently with Sounds Joyful at St John's Hub in Glastonbury (10:30am–12pm) — yes, it's over the hill, but a perfect detour for tea, song and community warmth. Later that night, Tom Harding brings "Through the Decades" show to Street heads your way (dinner 7:30pm, music 9pm). Shepton's own Art Bank Introducing: Rock & Pop Showcase fires up at 7pm, featuring emerging talent from The Blue School — fresh voices, free entry.
Friday 26 September sees the Glastonbury Carers Group meeting (10:30am) and Bristol Ensemble – Salon Sessions later in the evening. Meanwhile, Macmillan Coffee Morning is happening in Wells too, if you fancy a change of scenery. Over at The Amulet in Shepton, the Live Music Weekender launches with Banco de Gaia and Mike Dennis from 7pm.

Saturday 27 September is the big one. Charlton House Harvest Festival takes over Montigo Resorts Somerset (aka Charlton House) from midday 'til late — free, vibrant, and packed with folk fusion (Fiddle & Strum), soulful acoustic sets (Charlie Greenwood), sax grooves (AndronSax) and genre-shifting Abstract Band. Expect festival food, garden strolls and big-stage energy in a refined country setting.
In parallel, Tools to Improve Mental Well‑Being and Manage Anxiety runs at Ammerdown Centre (9:30am–4pm).
Also that day, the Somerset Comic Con & Gaming Festival whips up cosplay chaos at Bath & West Showground, while Glastonbury's monthly town‑wide market, Hope Bourne's "A Life Outside" exhibition and Willow Basket Workshop are all happening in Glastonbury/Street too — cross‑county cultural hopping encouraged. For something a little quieter, Quiet Day at Ammerdown offers poetry, contemplation and shared lunch. The Community rally in Glastonbury raises voices on human rights.

Sunday 28 September sees Somerset Open Studios – Shelley Dyer‑Gibbins open near North Wootton. Drop in for art, mini workshops and a look into creative lives.
By Tuesday 30 September, Turkish belly dance classes with Nazreen pick back up (7pm–8pm) at The Assembly Rooms in Glastonbury.

So yes — this is not just another quiet week. It's harvest festivals, comic-con, mental wellness and new voices hitting the mic. You don't have to do everything (seriously, don't try). But do pick your favourites, lean in, and soak up what Shepton & surrounds have to offer.
