The MSAS Countryside Day at Mid-Somerset Showground, Shepton Mallet is the place to be if you want to indulge in your Somerset heritage.

What's On in Shepton Mallet is brought to you by our sponsors, Studio24 in Wells, Crossfit Mendip and the Bath and West Showground.

Shepton Mallet is pack with events this weekend, from vintage tractors and hedge-laying at Countryside Day to bargain hunting at the Ariat Outlet Sale. If you’re looking for a different way to spend Valentine’s, you can swap overpriced set menus for a drumming workshop, a local gig, or even a nostalgic night at the panto. Whether you're here for the shopping, the music, or just a good old-fashioned bacon sandwich at the Mid-Somerset Showground, there’s something for everyone.

Friday 14 February

If smashing things with sticks sounds like your kind of therapy, the Drumming for Wellness workshop at The Ammerdown Centre, Radstock might be worth considering. No musical ability is required—just turn up, hit some drums, and let the sound bath do the rest. The £70 ticket includes a cooked lunch, morning coffee, and afternoon tea, which should help keep energy levels up. Book your place here.

If you think you've seen Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs before, think again. This version at Binegar Village Hall is set in the 1950s, complete with a live band, The Binegarettes, playing rock 'n' roll hits. Expect plenty of laughs, music, and more than a little audience participation. The show runs from 14–16 February, and tickets are selling fast. Tickets are available here.

For those who would rather avoid the clichés, The Red Brick Building in Glastonbury is hosting a Valentine's Night event, while Riki Buckingham is playing a Valentine's Gig at The Sheppey for those who prefer their romance with a side of live music.

Saturday 15 February

Love a bargain? Need some new boots? The Ariat Outlet Sale at Bath & West Showground is offering up to 75 percent off clothing, legwear, footwear, and accessories. Stock will be replenished throughout the day, so there's no need to fight over the last pair of riding boots. Entry is free, but tickets must be booked in advance.

Got a broken toaster? A favourite jumper with a hole in it? The Glastonbury Repair Café at St. Benedict's Church, Glastonbury is here to help. Bring along an item to be fixed while you enjoy tea, homemade cake, and a chat. If it can be repaired, it gets a new lease of life without adding to landfill. No booking required, just turn up.

Sunday 16 February

If your idea of a good day out involves vintage tractors, a hedge-laying competition, and a Land Rover meet, then MSAS Countryside Day at Mid-Somerset Showground, Shepton Mallet is the place to be. Tractors must be at least 25 years old to enter, and the entry fee includes a bacon sandwich. Non-tractor owners are, of course, welcome to come along and watch. More details can be found here.

For keen gardeners or those looking to start, Glastonbury Seedy Sunday at St. Benedicts's Church, Glastonbury is the place to swap, share, and learn about growing crops that actually suit the local climate. There will be talks on biochar, natural dyeing, and local food production, along with a chance to meet community food growers. Entry is by donation, and homemade cakes will be available. More details here.

Whatever your plans this week, there is plenty happening—whether you want to rock out with Snow White, pick up some bargain boots, or spend the weekend hedge-laying.
