As the weather warms and the days lengthen, Shepton Mallet is full of a series of exciting events perfect for everyone, from locals to visitors.

This weekend promises everything from heartfelt celebrations to thrilling performances, ensuring there's never a dull moment in the town.

Shepton Mallet Lido is set to mark its 111th birthday with a grand community celebration this Saturday, 25th May. The historic lido, which began its journey as a brewery reservoir, has planned an action-packed day starting with a Shepton Fun Aquathlon at 7:45 am, followed by various swimming activities, including a unique 111-metre swimming competition. The festivities will continue throughout the day with music, fun floats, face painting, and children's sports games. A competition to design a new logo for the lido will also give creative attendees a chance to make their mark on history. For more details on this splashy celebration and to book your visit, download the Fusion Lifestyle app as highlighted in the news here.

Also on Saturday, the East Somerset Railway offers a unique Birds of Prey Day, where attendees can admire these majestic birds and enjoy flying displays, weather permitting. Raptorcare will be on site to educate and entertain, making it an ideal outing for wildlife enthusiasts and families alike. Complementing the avian attractions, guests can travel back in time with all-day rover tickets, enjoying the lush Somerset countryside aboard a heritage steam train. Throughout the holiday period, families can participate in the Springtime Scavenger Hunt at the East Somerset Railway. Complete your adventure by popping your finished sheet in the Ticket Office post box to enter a competition to win a prize!

Art Behind Bars kicks off on 25th May and runs until 2nd June at Shepton Mallet Prison, offering an intriguing glimpse into the creative potential behind prison walls. This event promises to challenge perceptions and showcase a different side of incarceration through powerful artistic expressions.

Animal lovers will enjoy the Somerset Horse Show at the Mid-Somerset Agricultural Society Showground this Sunday from 1:00 to 15:00. This event celebrates the beauty and agility of horses, featuring competitions and displays that highlight the bond between horse and rider.

Saturday is also the day for the Pilton Stage Party Auditions Heat 3 at The Pilton Stage, where local talents vie for the spotlight. Later that evening, brace yourself for the Shepton Mallet Ghost Hunt at Shepton Mallet Prison, promising eerie explorations into the paranormal realms of this historic site.

TRounding out the cultural offerings, Evercreech Village Hall hosts a rendition of 'The Elves and the Shoemaker' from Thursday, 23rd May, to Saturday, 25th May. This production brings the classic fairy tale to life, perfect for families seeking a magical theatre experience.
