Shepton Mallet Lido, operated by registered charity Fusion Lifestyle, is 111 years old in 2024 and, to celebrate, the centre will be opening its doors to the community for a day-long celebration on Saturday 25th May.

The event will start at 7.45am with an Aquathlon, followed by lane swimming then a birthday party before a sunset swim. The agenda for the day is:

• 07:45-08:45 – Shepton Fun Aquathlon
• 09:00-10:00- Morning Lane Swim
• 10:30-16:00- Lido birthday party
• 20:00-22:00- Shepton Sunset Swim

 111 themed challenges will run throughout the day too, with a 111-metre swimming competition offering the fastest swimmer a 1-month free membership. A junior 111 second race will run too, challenging u16's to swim 50 metres in under 111 seconds. All junior swimmers who achieve this will receive a medal, and the fastest swimmer will win a free summer family swim.

The birthday party, from 10.30 – 4pm will give visitors the chance to enjoy music, fun and floats in the pool. The fun doesn't stop there with face painting taking place all day, kid's sports games to take part in, including sack races and egg & spoon races and market stalls selling throughout the day.

A competition will be running all day to design a new logo for Shepton Mallet Lido too, and the winning entry will be adopted by the lido, giving visitors the chance to leave a lasting impression and become a part of the lido's history. There are more chances to win too as all those booked in for a swim will be entered into a prize draw to win a season ticket to the lido too.

Jess Baxter, general manager of Shepton Mallet Lido for Fusion Lifestyle, commented: "We are really excited to celebrate the lido's anniversary. Our centre started off as a brewery reservoir before being transformed into a lido in 1913 and has since become a local landmark and a place that the whole family can come and get active and have fun."
