Repair cafe, singing and wedding fair keep Shepton Mallet busy
By Laura Linham 9th Apr 2026
What's On in Shepton Mallet is brought to you by the Bath & West Showground — home to the biggest events in Somerset.
Shepton Mallet's week is a mix of the useful, the sociable and the slightly unexpected. There is a repair cafe for broken household items, a singing workshop nearby and a wedding fair at the showground, so the diary is doing a decent job of covering both everyday life and full-scale occasion planning.
Things start on Thursday 9 April in Glastonbury with Falling With Style at Glastonbury Town Hall, where Lottie Dale will talk about her skydiving experiences, followed by refreshments. The event says all women are welcome, with free entry for a first visit.
Friday 10 April is one of those dates where you could end up needing a clipboard just to keep up. In Street, Avalon Wellness Community Coffee & Chat is running at Fondo Lounge from 10am to 11.30am as a free, informal drop-in for people working in health and wellness. Also on Friday in Glastonbury, People's Emergency Briefing is due at Glastonbury Town Hall, with a screening and discussion focused on climate and nature, and organisers say seats are free but limited. Over in Wells that evening, Spring Quiz takes place at The White Hart, with arrival from 7pm for a 7.30pm start, while Junior Question Time is on at Coxley Memorial Hall from 6pm to 8pm, giving local children the chance to put questions to councillors. A fairly strong case, then, for learning how to be in three places at once.
Saturday 11 April brings Shepton Mallet Repair Cafe to The Art Bank in Shepton Mallet from 11am to 1pm, with no booking needed for people bringing broken items along. The same day also marks the start of The Big Southwest Wedding Fair at Bath & West Showground, continuing into Sunday 12 April, with catwalk shows scheduled for 11am and 1.30pm on both days.
Sunday 12 April stays busy. Fun Singing For Wellbeing and Joy! is on at Wookey Hole Church near Wells from 2.30pm to 4pm, and the same event is also listed on the Shepton Mallet site as Fun Singing For Wellbeing and Joy!. In Wells, the City of Wells Bowls Club opening is also taking place, with the mayor, Louis Abagani, due to roll the first wood of the season at 2pm.
Monday 13 April shifts the focus to talks and meetings. In Glastonbury, Talk: Iron-age Textiles and Glastonbury Lake Village is scheduled at Glastonbury Town Hall, where University of Exeter experimental archaeologist Caz Loader will discuss Iron Age textile production and research linked to Glastonbury Lake Village. In Wells, the Royal Air Forces Association Mid-Somerset Branch Meeting 13th April is due at Wells Golf Club, including a presentation by Paul Ashmore and a short branch meeting afterwards. Also on Monday, Singing at The Shrubbery, Shepton Mallet is listed on the Wells site, although the event itself is taking place in Shepton Mallet.
Wednesday 15 April sees Avalon Wellness Community meetup at Crispin Community Centre from 10am to 12pm. The event is aimed at people working in the wellness industry, and the listing says tea or coffee and a small sweet treat are included in the ticket price.
Thursday 16 April features Charity Night Dinner raising funds for Dorothy House Hospice Care. It is listed on Shepton Mallet Nub News, but the event itself is taking place at Sarthi restaurant in Bath from 5pm to 10pm, which is one of those details worth noticing before anyone confidently heads in entirely the wrong direction.
Finally, Saturday 18 April rounds things off in Wells with The Gigspanner Big Band, A Unique Force In British Folk Music at Cedar Hall.
