New deputy manager for St Cecilia Care Home

Amy Hoskins has joined St Cecilia Care Home in Shepton Mallet as the home's new deputy manager. Amy (35) has worked in the care sector for 15 years, including a period in a home's finance office which has given her a sound understanding of the logistics of running a care home.

On leaving school, Amy did an apprenticeship as a mechanic in the car industry, but at 20 she moved to the care sector, starting as a healthcare assistant (HCA) and working her way up the ladder becoming first a shift leader, then a supervisor.

She also worked with the NHS in the community, supporting people at home, before returning to a care home setting in a caring capacity.

Amy said: "I applied to St Cecilia because the home has got such a good reputation in Shepton Mallet.

"I've worked in larger settings, but I love the fact that St Cecilia is smaller – our maximum capacity is 17. This means it feels really homely, not at all institutionalised.

"Our manager, Tracy Woolfrey, has been in position for 12 years, and the incredibly low staff turnover is a credit to the professional and caring way she runs the home.

"The staff all get on really well with each other, and we're small enough that they all know the residents individually too.

"I'm finding my new role so rewarding. It involves working with Tracy on residents' care plans, as well as supporting the team and the residents. I also do a couple of care shifts each week and I enjoy that a lot."

Tracy Woolfrey said: "We are so pleased to have Amy as our new deputy manager. She is warm and caring with both residents and colleagues, and brings a wealth of experience to St Cecilia which we're already finding invaluable."

Outside work Amy's 10-year-old son keeps her busy, and the two of them enjoy walking, spending time with the wider family, camping - especially around Wales - and looking after the family cat. Amy also enjoys visiting the gym and doing crochet, a hobby that has been handed down her family through the generations.
