Bath & West learning day to welcome 1,500 pupils for lessons in farming and food
By Laura Linham 9th Oct 2026
Up to 1,500 primary school pupils can take part in a day of practical lessons about farming and food production at the Bath & West Showground this month.
Field to Food Learning Day returns on Wednesday, 21 October, giving children the chance to explore where their food comes from and the work involved in producing it.
The event is organised by the Royal Bath & West Society at the Bath & West Showground, a sponsor of Shepton Mallet Nub News.
Now in its eighth year, the programme has been split between spring and autumn dates for the first time. Organisers say the change will help meet growing demand from schools while keeping groups smaller.
Activities announced for this year include lessons in dairy production with Purbeck Ice Cream, nature-based learning with Belmont Estate, and sessions involving National Grid and National Highways.
Volunteers guide school groups around the showground, helping pupils learn through demonstrations and practical activities.
The October event runs from 9.30am to 3pm and is for schools that have applied to attend, rather than general public admission.
