Shepton Mallet springs to life this weekend with art and adventure
This weekend, Street, Glastonbury, Wells, and Shepton Mallet promise a variety of events catering to all interests and age groups.
Music lovers in Glastonbury are in for a treat. On Friday, Theo Mizu and Banda will perform at The King Arthur from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
The same evening, the Lammas Healing Song Circle will take place at the White Rabbit on High Street from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, offering a more spiritual and introspective experience.
Join the Glastonbury Pagan Moot on Friday at Beckets Inn, 43 High St, Glastonbury, for an engaging talk by Kea Bardeen on the topic of spirals. Kea, originally from Wyoming and Colorado and now serving as the financial steward to the White Spring in Glastonbury, brings her diverse background in law, entrepreneurship, and a lifelong curiosity to explore the patterns and cycles that influence us and the world.
Her talk, "Are We Spirals?", delves into the significance of the spiral in sacred geometry, its prevalence in Celtic symbology, and its broader implications in nature and energy patterns. Kea will discuss how spirals can inform our understanding of health and healing, encouraging attendees to leave with a renewed sense of curiosity.
Saturday, the much-anticipated 2024 Abbey Extravaganza will take place at Glastonbury Abbey on Magdalene Street, starting at 4:30 pm and running until 10 pm. Alt-rock stars Keane will headline the event.
Keane, hailing from Battle, East Sussex, consists of Tim Rice-Oxley (composer and pianist), Tom Chaplin (lead vocals), Richard Hughes (drummer), and Jesse Quin (bass). The band is celebrating the 20th anniversary of their debut album 'Hopes and Fears', which includes the iconic hit 'Somewhere Only We Know'.
The Hot House Flowers will support Keane, along with swing tunes from the Shepton Mallet Big Band. Gates will open at 4:30 p.m., and the evening will conclude with a traditional fireworks display at 10 p.m.
For those interested in a more eclectic mix, the 3 Daft Monkeys will be playing at Glastonbury Town Hall on Magdalene Street from 7 pm to 11 pm. Glastonbury's weekend concludes with Taylor T Sunday Session at The King Arthur from 8 pm to 10 pm.
The Satellites Youth Camp 2024 at The Bath & West Showground starts on Friday and is running until Tuesday.

The event will also feature a variety of stalls run by queer business owners, drag performances, and creative art activities, such as painting on canvases, providing an interactive and inclusive experience for attendees.
The Wells Art Contemporary (WAC) exhibition returns from 3rd to 31st August 2024, offering a unique blend of contemporary art within the historic setting of Wells Cathedral. This event features a white wall gallery displaying 121 multimedia artworks in the Cloisters, alongside 19 site-specific installations throughout the cathedral and its grounds. These installations have been selected for their engagement with the cathedral's architectural and spiritual atmosphere by a panel including curator Jacquiline Creswell.
Admission to the exhibition is included with entry to the cathedral. For those unable to visit in person, a virtual exhibition will be available online.
Music lovers can enjoy the Hook Norton Brass Band at The Bishop's Palace & Gardens on Friday from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm.
