Shepton Mallet awakens winter with events like the Found Poetry Club, Window Wanderland, and a Fire Show.

What's On in Shepton Mallet is brought to you by the Bath & West Showground — home to the biggest events in Somerset — and La Bella Italian Restaurant.

Shepton Mallet is throwing off the winter gloom this February with a trio of events that prove creativity isn't just for summer. From illuminated windows and a fiery town centre spectacle to cut-and-paste poetry in the library, the town is embracing the season with warmth, light, and a good dash of DIY spirit.

It all kicks off on Thursday 5 February, with Shepton Mallet's Found Poetry Club at the town library from 10.30am–12.30pm. Led by local writer Polly Hall, it's a themed workshop all about creatively recycling words—this month, "Recipe for Love". No experience required and all materials provided. That evening, the first night of Window Wanderland gets underway. Homes across Shepton will be lighting up decorated windows from 5–9pm each night until Saturday. It's free to join in or just have a wander.

On Friday 6 February, the town centre is set to sparkle with a Fire Show in Shepton's Market Place—music, flames, and a family-friendly way to end the week, kicking off after dark. Meanwhile in Glastonbury, The King Arthur is hosting the high-energy launch of Mi Vida Loca: Sweatbox Sessions. Think underground vibes, thumping bass, and a packed dance floor. Free entry, but strictly over 18s only.

Then on Saturday 7 February, things are full steam ahead across the board. In Wells, the annual performance of Britten's Ceremony of Carols returns to the Cathedral, featuring the Choristers and Mared Pugh-Evans—His Majesty's Harpist. Entry is free, though donations are encouraged, and the music starts as the light fades. You can find out more at Ceremony of Carols.

Over in Glastonbury, The Assembly Rooms are raising money the best way they know how—with music. The Fundraising Festival starts at 8pm and promises good tunes for a good cause. Tickets are £10. Elsewhere in town, Avalon Thelema: Feast of the Stars offers a spiritual gathering at The Star Room on High Street. All are welcome, with donations appreciated.

Rolling into next week, Monday 9 February marks the first session of Singing For Wellbeing and Joy, a casual, no-pressure singing group led by local singer Helena Eden. It takes place at the Paul Street Community Centre in Shepton Mallet from 7–8.30pm, and costs just £5 for your first go. No sheet music, just songs you'll learn by ear—from folk to gospel to a bit of pop.

Finally, on Thursday 12 February, Wells hosts its first of two Winter Gardening and Snowdrops Walk and Talk events at the Bishop's Palace and Gardens. Led by Head Gardener James Cross, followed by a talk on James Allen—Somerset's very own Snowdrop King—tickets include tea, cake, and acres of February beauty. Over in Glastonbury, the Women's Friendship Group meets at the Town Hall for their anniversary event, A Year On!, at 2.30pm. Expect reflections, refreshments and a community full of stories.
