Motorhomes, village shows and cult cinema: Shepton Mallet’s weekend line-up is anything but dull

There's no such thing as a quiet weekend in Shepton Mallet — not when the motorhomes are rolling in, the village shows are handing out rosettes, and the Amulet is bouncing between family-friendly raves and back-to-back cult classics. From Evercreech to Market Place, it's full throttle this week. Just maybe pack earplugs.
What's On in Shepton Mallet is brought to you by the Bath & West Showground — home to the biggest events in Somerset — and La Bella Italian Restaurant, where every meal tastes like a holiday in Italy.
Ongoing throughout the week is the costumes of BBC's Wolf Hall exhibition at the Bishop's Palace & Gardens in Wells. Running until 28 September, the display features period costumes from the hit TV drama and is included with standard palace admission (you'll need to check their site for prices).
On Thursday 4 September, Wells plays host to a fostering information session at Coxley Memorial Hall on Main Road in Coxley. It runs from 6pm to 8pm, it's free to attend, and they'll even throw in coffee and cake. No booking mentioned, so it's likely a drop-in setup.
Friday 5 September marks the start of the way of the oracle – introductory course, a four-part online series led by the Priestess of Avalon training school. Each session runs from 6pm to 9pm on alternate Fridays. The full course costs £96, and sessions are recorded if you can't make it live.

Meanwhile, from Friday through Sunday, Shepton Mallet hosts the Southwest Motorhome Show 2025 at the Bath & West Showground. It opens 9.30am each day, closing 5pm on Friday and Saturday, and 4pm on Sunday. Day tickets are £7.50 in advance or £10 on the gate, while weekend camping is £85 for up to two adults and three children. Expect vehicles, vendors and possibly more caravan-related banter than strictly necessary.
Saturday 6 September is packed across all three towns. In Glastonbury, create & connect nature workshop runs from 11am to 4pm at Bridie's Farm on Porch's Tall Drove. Tickets are £20 and include lunch — expect an arty, hands-in-the-soil kind of day. A little later, celebrate countryside day with a guided nature walk kicks off at 2pm at Shapwick Moor Nature Reserve. It's free, though donations to the Hawk & Owl Trust are appreciated.
In Shepton Mallet, Evercreech Village Show 2025 starts from midday at Weston Town Recreation Ground. It's £2.50 for adults and free for kids, with the usual assortment of community stalls, competitions and a strong chance of Victoria sponge.
Also in Shepton, the Amulet hosts two events on the Saturday. First, there's Amulet Anthems – family friendly rave — an afternoon session of old-school club classics and disco, with balloons, glow sticks and no drop-off parenting allowed. Everyone under 18 must bring an adult and every adult must bring a child. Tickets are £3 and advance booking is recommended.
Then in the evening, the Amulet switches to cinema mode for Amulet movie night – Clueless (cert 15). Doors open at 6.30pm, film starts at 7.30pm, and DJs play in the bar before and after. Tickets are £5 for this 90s teen classic that turned Jane Austen's Emma into a Valley Girl makeover.

On Tuesday 9 September, Wells sees the arrival of Regal Rolls Royces exhibition on the Cathedral Green. Running from 10am (or more precisely, 10.30am to 2pm according to this companion article), the free display features more than 20 pre-war Rolls Royces parked up in front of the cathedral. Ideal for vintage car fans or anyone who enjoys a bit of chrome with their cloisters.
That same evening in Shepton, Amulet Art House Cinema – Hackers (cert 12) hits the screen at 7.30pm (doors at 6.30pm). Another cult 90s flick, this one stars Angelina Jolie and Jonny Lee Miller hacking the mainframe in baggy jeans and questionable tech jargon. DJs return to the bar before and after the screening, and again, it's £5 a ticket.
Finally, on Thursday 11 September, Glastonbury Town Hall hosts the Glastonbury women's friendship group from 10am to 12pm. It's free and open to all women looking to make new connections — no details on format, but it's probably a safe bet there's tea involved.
Whether your week includes club lighting and earplugs or heritage engines and homemade chutney, the local area is once again serving up more choice than anyone expects from early September.
