Drivers leaving Wells will be rerouted through Shepton Mallet while major roadworks take place on the A39.
From Monday 8 September to Tuesday 28 October, the A39 Glastonbury Road in Wells will be one‑way only to allow utility upgrades and resurfacing.
Traffic heading into Wells from Glastonbury will be unaffected. But vehicles leaving Wells on the A39 will face a diversion via Shepton Mallet, along the A371, and then onto the A361 towards Glastonbury. The affected stretch runs between the junction with Jocelyn Drive and the Strawberry Way roundabout.
The works will see upgrades to gas, water and electricity networks, as well as resurfacing of the road.
Somerset Council says the restrictions are essential to deliver long‑term improvements and urges drivers to plan ahead to avoid disruption, particularly during peak travel times.
