A small restaurant in the heart of Somerset has earned a spot on one of the world's most prestigious foodie lists.

Osip, based in Bruton and run by chef-patron Merlin Labron-Johnson, has been named one of the top 50 restaurants in the world by Condé Nast Traveller in its 2025 Hot List.

The magazine praised Osip as offering "starry, sustainable dining at its very finest" and placed it alongside internationally renowned venues in Paris, New Orleans and Sydney.

"Rarely has a rural English village seen such footfall from world-class foodies," the review noted. "But Osip, set among the rolling hills of Somerset, has been pulling in crowds from around the world, all of whom champ at the bit to taste the plant-heavy delights of chef-patron Merlin Labron-Johnson."

The write-up celebrates Osip's reopening in a larger location, dubbing it "Osip 2.0", and credits the new space's farmhouse-inspired interiors for complementing Labron-Johnson's vegetable-led tasting menu, where meat and seafood are used sparingly, often as accents rather than centrepieces.

Much of the produce is sourced directly from the chef's nearby farm, with trout coming from a local organic supplier. The restaurant also crafts its own cider and offers non-alcoholic pairings made from food waste and herbs grown in-house.

Rooms at Osip are also due to open soon, adding another dimension to what is fast becoming a destination dining experience.

This latest accolade follows previous recognition for Osip, which has also been named among the best restaurants in the UK at the National Restaurant Awards.

Labron-Johnson, who earned his first Michelin star at age 24, has become known for championing sustainability and hyper-local sourcing in fine dining.
