Somerset Council has launched a county-wide consultation to shape children's services.

Somerset Council has opened a county‑wide consultation inviting parents, children, professionals and the public to help shape the future of children and family services under its Families First Partnership (FFP).

The consultation seeks feedback on what is working, what needs changing and how to increase the number of children safely remaining at home. The programme aligns with national proposals to reform children's social care, encouraging closer collaboration across social work, police, health, education and other sectors.

Under FFP, Somerset aims to redesign its approach so that families receive the right support at the right time, preventing crises and promoting children's wellbeing. Focus groups will run alongside the survey for those wishing to contribute in more depth.

The consultation is now open and can be completed online, or via paper copies at libraries or council offices. The deadline for responses is 27 November 2025, after which all feedback will be reviewed and a summary published.
