Shepton’s Shambles repairs take step forward
By Laura Linham 28th Apr 2026
Repairs to one of Shepton Mallet's best-known town centre landmarks have taken a step forward.
The Shambles, in the Market Place, is back on the town council agenda on Tuesday, 28 April, with an update confirming that conservation architects have now been appointed.
They will liaise with the conservation officer and draw up a schedule of works for the historic structure.
A site visit has also been completed.
The Shambles has been the subject of long-running discussions at Shepton Mallet Town Council, with councillors previously pushing for repairs to be progressed as quickly as possible.
At a meeting on Tuesday, 18 November 2025, councillors agreed to press ahead legally and allocated up to £10,000 from the town improvements and maintenance underspend.
The latest update means the project remains in progress, but with professional advice now in place to help shape the next stage.
The full council meeting takes placetonight at the Shape hub from 7pm.
