Shepton plan would bring Christmas trees back above shops
By Laura Linham 15th Oct 2026
Christmas trees and community-made flags could appear above Shepton's shops under a proposal from the Snowdrop Festival. The scheme would reuse more than 60 existing holders across Town Street, Market Place and High Street.
Organisers want some ready for Christmas and February's festival.
Their proposal recommends inspecting the holders, repairing sound ones and replacing others in stages.
An option covering checks, repairs and reuse of around 30 holders is estimated at £5,300 excluding VAT. Fresh quotations, safety checks and permissions would be needed before work proceeds.
Schools, artists, charities and sports clubs could contribute flags, with displays changing through the year. The proposal was included in papers for the town council's Recreation, Amenities and Environment Committee on 13 October; an approval has not been confirmed.
The Snowdrop Festival's main programme returns on 19 and 20 February 2027. Organisers are also recruiting volunteers for autumn bulb planting, adding to the hundreds of thousands already planted around Shepton.
