Oliver Connock, a student from St Aldhelm's Primary School in Shepton Mallet has been named the Ages 8 to 11 Runner-Up in the prestigious Wallace & Gromit's Cracking Ideas Competition 2023.

This nationwide contest, hosted by the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) and Aardman, celebrates the creativity and innovation of Britain's youngest inventors.

The competition, aimed at encouraging eco-friendly innovations, had entrants revamp the iconic 'Techno Trousers' from the Oscar-winning film Wallace & Gromit: The Wrong Trousers. Participants, aged between 4 and 11, were challenged to redesign the trousers with a focus on sustainability and ecological benefits.

Connock distinguished himself with his imaginative creation, "Mr. Turbo Trousers."

Powered by rubbish, these trousers not only help clean the environment but also add a dash of fun, transforming surroundings into a disco at the press of a button. This whimsical yet functional design showcases Connock's unique approach to tackling environmental issues.

Adam Williams, the Chief Executive and Comptroller General of the IPO, said: " The future of innovation in the United Kingdom has never looked brighter, thanks to the young minds who are paving the way with their unbridled creativity and commitment to a sustainable, eco-friendly world. Wallace and Gromit would undoubtedly be proud of these outstanding young inventors."
