Shepton Mallet West ward vote called for 7 May

Voters in Shepton Mallet West ward will go to the polls on Thursday, 7 May 2026 if a parish council election is contested. Somerset Council has formally opened the election process for one seat in the ward.
The notice confirms nomination papers must be delivered by hand to Somerset Council Electoral Services at Cannards Grave Road in Shepton Mallet no later than 4 pm on Thursday, 9 April. Papers can be collected from the same office during the times set out in the notice.
Only one parish councillor is to be elected for Shepton Mallet West ward. The notice was dated Friday, 27 March 2026 and printed and published by the Returning Officer, Duncan Sharkey.
There are also key deadlines for voters to watch. Applications to register to vote must be in by midnight on Monday, 20 April 2026.
The deadline for postal vote applications, amendments or cancellations is 5 pm on Tuesday, 21 April 2026. Applications for a proxy vote, a Voter Authority Certificate or an Anonymous Elector's Document must arrive by 5 pm on Tuesday, 28 April 2026.
Emergency proxy applications can be made up to 5 pm on polling day itself.
