Shepton Mallet to decide on Collett Park friends group
By Laura Linham 30th Mar 2026
Shepton Mallet Town Council is set to decide whether to move ahead with a proposed Friends of Collett Park group aimed at boosting community involvement in the town's best-known park.
The plan will be discussed by the Recreation, Amenities and Environment Committee on Tuesday, 31 March 2026 at 7pm. Councillors are being asked to decide whether they want to progress the idea and, if so, define the group's scope, objectives and success criteria.
According to the report, the proposed group forms part of the council's Year 3 strategic plan under recreation, play and amenities.
Suggested roles include helping develop improvement ideas for Collett Park, encouraging public participation, supporting volunteer projects, helping seek external funding and promoting inclusive use of the park.
The committee is also being asked to consider how the group would work with council officers and councillors, whether it should have a formal constitution, and how it should be set up.
