Shepton Mallet residents are being urged to have their say on the town's budget for 2025-2026 before council tax bills land on doorsteps next spring.

The town council has started planning its finances for the next financial year, and locals are encouraged to get involved early to ensure their voices are heard.

Each year, the council reviews its budget to determine how much funding will be needed to support its projects and services for the following year. The proposed budget will be discussed in a series of meetings where residents can provide feedback, ask questions, and suggest changes.

"We don't want residents to wait until March to comment on their council tax bill," said a town council spokesperson. "Now is the time to share your thoughts and ideas on how the town's money should be spent."

During the next council meeting, the draft 2025-2026 budget will be presented, and the Town Clerk and Councillors will be on hand to answer any questions. Community input is crucial at this stage, as feedback will be taken into consideration before the budget is finalised.

In addition to discussing the proposed budget, there will also be presentations from local community groups that have benefitted from council support and grant funding in recent years. Organisations such as Shepton Mallet Community Fridge, Shepton Snowdrops, Windsor Hill Woods, and the YMCA will share updates on their projects and how the town's financial support has made a difference.

Several other local organisations, including the Wessex Multiple Sclerosis Society and the As Old As the Hills Project, will also have stands at the meeting, providing more information on their work in the community.

Residents who want to get involved and find out more about the budget discussions and community presentations can visit the council's social media page or the official event listing here.

The council is keen to stress that early involvement will ensure the budget reflects the needs and priorities of Shepton Mallet residents.
