Shepton Mallet Prison's Closure Averted: Historic site to stay open
Shepton Mallet Prison - which had been scheduled to close as a heritage attraction at the end of January is to remain open in the new year, it has been confirmed.
The decision comes following productive talks between Cove Group, the site operators, and City & Country, the landlords.
The prison, a landmark of immense historical and cultural value to Shepton Mallet and surrounding areas, has been at the heart of the community for over four centuries.
Looking ahead, Cove Group anticipates further discussions with City & Country Group in the new year, focusing on the site's long-term future.

Shepton Mallet Prison holds the distinction of being the world's oldest prison, a title that underscores its significance. Since 2017, Cove Group has been managing this historical site, offering visitors a chance to explore its rich history through detailed tours and events.
