Somerset Council's Highways team is gearing up for a vital road refurbishment task on the A361 Cranmore Road, just a stone's throw from Shepton Mallet.

The work, set to start next month, aims to breathe new life into the road between Dean and East Cranmore.

With the road showing clear signs of wear and tear, the council has earmarked 8-19 January for the works.

The plan includes a full road closure, but only during off-peak hours to ease the burden on local commuters. Work will be carried out on weekday evenings, from 6.30pm to 11.30pm, ensuring the road stays open during the day.

Residents and businesses in the immediate area can rest easy, as access will be maintained throughout the project.

Councillor Mike Rigby, Somerset Council's Lead Member for Transport and Digital, highlighted the necessity of the works.

"This road surface is showing significant signs of deterioration and it is essential that we carry out this work – this is a really busy route," he said.

"Carrying out the work during evenings will minimise disruption for road users during peak hours."

A diversion will be in operation during the closure hours. For more details on the diversion and the specific work area, check out Somerset Council's interactive map at www.somerset.gov.uk/roads-travel-and-parking/roadworks-and-travel/.
