Shepton Mallet Prison has collected two awards at the Bristol, Bath and Somerset Tourism Awards, held at the Apex City of Bath Hotel. The attraction secured Commended status in the Large Visitor Attraction of the Year category, and Duty Manager Monica Newton was presented with the Unsung Hero Award.
Attraction director Charlie Lawson commented: "This honour reflects the hard work and passion of our entire team. We pride ourselves on offering visitors an authentic and engaging experience that brings history to life — and it's wonderful to see that recognised."
The Unsung Hero award recognised Monica Newton's outstanding work developing the "Educational Behind Bars" programme, which is supported by educational institutions and police forces and aims to improve pupils' understanding of crime and punishment. CEO Joel Campbell added: "Monica's dedication has been outstanding."
These accolades underscore Shepton Mallet Prison's commitment to preserving and promoting its heritage while delivering immersive visitor experiences including guided tours, escape rooms, ghost hunts and Night Behind Bars events.
