Police are investigating after two men reportedly returned to the scene of a crash on the A361 between Pilton and Shepton Mallet before removing items from the vehicle and setting it on fire.
Avon and Somerset Police received a report at around 10.30 am on Tuesday, 18 August that a silver Hyundai Accent had left East Compton Road and ended up in a ditch.
Later the same day, sometime between 1 pm and 1.30 pm, two unknown white men are reported to have arrived at the crash site in a black SUV-type vehicle.
Police say the pair began removing unidentified items from the Hyundai before setting the car alight and leaving the scene.
Officers are now appealing for anyone who saw either the original collision or suspicious activity around the vehicle later that day to come forward.
They are particularly keen to hear from motorists who travelled along East Compton Road at around 1 pm and may have relevant dashcam footage.
Anyone with information can call police on 101, quoting reference 5226232893.
Information can also be submitted through the Avon and Somerset Police online reporting form, while anyone wishing to provide information anonymously can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
