Shepton Mallet's new sports bar, arcade and American diner has confirmed it will open its doors on Friday, 11 September.

The Town Yard, at the bottom of the High Street, will open from 8 am until 11.30 pm on Friday, followed by 7 am until 11.30 pm on Saturday.

The venue is being created by entrepreneur Laura Summers, who has taken on three properties in the area. Two of them are being knocked through to create the large Town Yard site.

The new venue will combine a sports bar with an arcade and American diner-style food, with the menu set to include loaded fries, brisket, smash burgers and milkshakes.

There will also be a milkshake parlour and food challenges, with Laura previously saying YouTubers had already been booked to take some of them on.

She said: "I've got three properties at the bottom of Shepton High Street, and two of them are being knocked through to make one large property.

"This is going to be a sports bar with an arcade and American diner-style food, so lots of loaded fries, brisket, smash burgers, a milkshake parlour and food challenges."

The Town Yard is only one half of Laura's plans for the lower end of the High Street.

A second venue, The Townhouse, is planned for the neighbouring larger unit and is expected to take a different approach, with a cocktail bar and restaurant serving steaks and tapas.

Laura said: "Next door, in the largest unit, is going to be The Townhouse, which will be a cocktail bar and restaurant serving steaks and tapas."

The Townhouse is currently hoped to open in December, with longer-term ambitions to develop its restaurant offer further.

For now, attention is firmly on getting The Town Yard open and giving Shepton Mallet another place for food, drinks, games and a night out.

After weeks of work behind the scenes, residents will get their first proper look inside when the doors open on Friday, 11 September.
