Shepton Mallet mum joins 100-mile charity trek for children’s hospice care
A mum from Shepton Mallet is set to embark on a challenging 100-mile trek along the Devon-Cornwall border to raise money for the UK's leading children's palliative care charity, Together for Short Lives. Zoe, whose family has benefitted from the care provided by Children's Hospice South West, will be part of a seven-strong team aiming to raise £50,000 to support seriously ill children and their families.
The trek will begin on Friday, 20 September, starting at Little Bridge House, a children's hospice in Fremington. Over the next four days, the group, led by Hobbycraft CEO Dominic Jordan and Together for Short Lives CEO Andy Fletcher, will follow the Tamara Coast to Coast Way, finishing in Plymouth.
The funds raised will help families like Zoe's, whose two sons, William (14) and Lewis (13), both have Congenital Hypomyelination Neuropathy, a condition that leaves them requiring round-the-clock care. The family has been receiving support from Little Bridge House for 15 years, benefitting from services like music therapy, hydrotherapy, and respite breaks.
Zoe said, "Little Bridge House has enriched pretty much every aspect of our lives. Knowing the boys are so well looked after gives us time to focus on our other children."
The trek is part of a decade-long fundraising effort by Hobbycraft and Together for Short Lives, which has already raised £350,000 for children's hospices. Hobbycraft has also hit a major milestone of raising £3 million through its long-running partnership with the charity, supporting 124 children's hospices across the UK.
To support Zoe and the trekking team's efforts, donations can be made at Together for Short Lives' fundraising page.
