Shepton Mallet is among the areas affected by a yellow weather warning for Friday between 12pm and 8pm.

The Met Office predicts that thunderstorms could bring frequent lightning, gusty winds, and possibly large hail. Some areas may experience up to 40mm of rain in just three hours, raising concerns about flash flooding.

Motorists are advised to be cautious, as driving conditions may deteriorate due to standing water, spray, and hail. Public transport, including trains and buses, could also face delays. Residents should prepare for possible power outages, ensuring that torches, batteries, and essential items are on hand. The local council has urged those in flood-prone areas to review their flood plans and gather emergency supplies in advance.

Anyone caught outside during the storm should seek shelter in an enclosed space and avoid open areas or tall structures. While the thunderstorms are expected to subside by the evening, the Met Office warns that weather conditions could shift rapidly, and residents should stay updated with the latest reports.
