The Shepton Mallet Men's Shed has been awarded a National Lottery grant of just over £6,500, securing its future for the next few years.

The community group provides a social space for people of all ages to connect, learn new skills, and take part in hands-on activities. While woodworking and craft projects are a big part of what they do, the real focus is on friendship, support, and shared knowledge—offering an invaluable service to the local community.

Shepton Mallet Town Council, which supported the group in securing the funding, said: "The Men's Shed is a local group that aims to provide companionship, activities and the opportunity to learn and share skills for people of any age. They're about social connections, friendship building, sharing skills and knowledge, and of course a lot of laughter. Whatever the activity it is not the building but the connections and relationships between its members – it's an invaluable service for the community."

The funding will help keep the group running, covering essential costs and ensuring that members can continue to benefit from its social and wellbeing-focused activities.

Anyone in need of assistance with grants, bid writing, or fundraising plans can contact the Community Development Officer at [email protected] for support.
