The Shepton Mallet Lantern Parad is calling for volunteers to ensure the success of this year's event. Organisers will be at Tesco on Saturday, 18th November, to provide information and enlist support.

Kate Lovell, Chair of the event, emphasised the importance of volunteers, She said: "The Lantern Parade is a great Shepton tradition and it just wouldn't happen without the help of our wonderful volunteers! We need more people to help with the lantern making workshops and also to act as stewards at the parade itself on Saturday, 16th December."

She encourages residents to visit Tesco this Saturday to learn more about how they can contribute.

The event is also a family-friendly affair, with lantern-making workshops scheduled for the weekends of 25th/26th November and 2nd/3rd December at the Paul St community centre.

These workshops are open to all, with a nominal fee of £2 for materials. "No need to book, just turn up on the day and there will be people to help you make your lanterns," says Lovell.

The Lantern Parade itself is set to assemble in Collet Park at 5pm on 16th December. It will proceed around the park and through the town to the Market Cross, accompanied by music from various bands. Attendees can also enjoy food and drink in the town during the event.

This festive event not only lights up the town with its vibrant lanterns but also brings the community together in celebration. The organisers hope to see many new and familiar faces, both as volunteers and participants, to make this year's Lantern Parade a memorable one.
