Shepton Mallet features in "Wicked Little Letters" set for next month's release

The much-anticipated film "Wicked Little Letters", partially filmed in Shepton Mallet, will hit cinema screens next month.

This comedy-drama, directed by Thea Sharrock and written by Jonny Sweet, features a star-studded cast including Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley.

"Wicked Little Letters" is a blend of comedy, crime, drama, history, and mystery. Based on a true story, starring Olivia Colman as a pious woman who begins to receive scandalous letters. This leads the town's women, including the local editor and a conservative, to unravel the mystery.

The film was shot entirely in the United Kingdom and Shepton Mallet Prison serves as a backdrop for several prison yard scenes.

Shepton Mallet Prison, with its rich history dating back to 1625, offers a unique and atmospheric setting that complements the film's narrative. This filming choice not only showcases the versatility of Somerset's landmarks but also contributes to the region's growing reputation as a prime location for film and TV production.

"Wicked Little Letters" is set for release in the United Kingdom on 23rd February 2024, with its filming having taken place in September 2022.
