On a busy Community Day, Shepton Mallet FC clinched a decisive 2-0 victory over Falmouth Town FC in their last home game of the season this Saturday, 20th April.

The match, held at the Shepton, drew a large crowd, including the vocal F Troop fans from Falmouth.

Falmouth Town, sitting second in the league, were favourites, but Shepton Mallet, having beaten them earlier in the season, repeated the feat in fine style.

The game kicked off with promising early attempts from Dylan Gould, Charlie Bateson, and Jacob Sloggett, keeping the home fans on their toes.

Shepton broke the deadlock at the 37th minute when Joel Sisson's cross set up Cam Allen, whose volley looped unexpectedly over the Falmouth goalkeeper. The lead was extended shortly before half-time, as Paul Braithwaite smashed the ball into the net from close range following a blocked shot from Bateson.

Despite a stronger second half from Falmouth, including a crucial save by Shepton's keeper Sam Jepson, the home side held firm, buoyed by an attendance of 331 supporters.

The week progressed with Shepton travelling to Saltash United on Tuesday, 23rd April, for their final league match. Unfortunately, it ended in a 3-0 defeat.

Manager Aaron Saviour remarked that the team was stretched thin, concluding a demanding sequence of five games in ten days. Despite promising starts in both halves, Shepton couldn't convert, with Saltash capitalising and securing their win with a late goal.

Looking forward, the club is gearing up for its Presentation Day on Sunday, 5th May, promising an evening of celebration with music and awards at the clubhouse.

This season marks a strong performance for both the first team and the reserves, the latter being crowned League Champions and winners of the Tony Baxter Shield.

Moreover, anticipation is building for the first team's upcoming final in the Les Phillips Cup against Tiverton FC on 12th May.

The match promises to be a thrilling culmination to Shepton's commendable season.
