A family of Glastonbury Festival-lovers in Shepton Mallet have decided not to let the cancellation of this year's event get them down - so they have created their own event in their back garden.

Katie and Russ Gillard, along with six-year-old son Noah, have made their own charming Glasthomebury Festival, featuring homemade signs, wristbands, programmes, tents and, of course, music.

They had weekend tickets to attend this year, something Katie has done on numerous occasions since her first Glastonbury Festival back in 1997.

She told Shepton Mallet Nub News: "We had weekend tickets for 2020 and like everyone else, were really looking forward to it.

"We had followed the Glasthomebury event on social media and saw what amazing creations people were coming up with and decided to make one of our own.

"We have a little circus tent, a miniature version of the ribbon tower and the paddling pool was our Glastonbury-on-sea. Our son Noah made us festival tickets which doubled up as home schooling."

Katie says that her festival highlight from over years was when Paul McCartney headlined the Pyramid Stage in 2004, while for Russ it was Tom Jones in 2009.

Russ and Katie, who work for Foray Motor Group and Screwfix respectively, are looking forward to their festival weekend at home, but are also already setting their sights on Glastonbury 2021.

Katie said: "It's just a magical place to be, there is so much to see and do and the atmosphere is incredible - we are definitely planning on going in 2021.

"There is so much Glastonbury coverage on the TV and radio this weekend for everyone to enjoy and the Glastohomebury events going on are really amazing."
