Crime figures in Shepton Mallet dropped slightly in October 2024, with 96 incidents recorded, compared to 105 the previous month, according to the latest data.

Violent crime remained the most frequently reported category, with 43 incidents recorded in both September and October, accounting for nearly half of all reported offences in the town.

However, there were decreases in other crime types. Anti-social behaviour cases fell from 13 in September to eight in October, while shoplifting reports dropped significantly from 15 incidents to seven.

Vehicle-related crime also saw a reduction, with four incidents in October compared to seven the month before.

Other offences, such as burglary and drug-related incidents, remained relatively stable. Two burglaries were reported in October compared to three in September, while drug offences fell from two to one. Criminal damage and arson cases saw a slight rise, increasing from four in September to seven in October.

A spokesperson for Shepton Mallet Police welcomed the overall decrease but acknowledged the need for continued focus on violent crime prevention. They said: "While it is positive to see reductions in several crime categories, the consistent level of violent crime remains a concern. We are committed to working closely with the community to improve safety and prevent further incidents. High-visibility patrols and community engagement initiatives remain a priority in our efforts to reduce crime further."

The police have encouraged residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity, emphasising that the figures represent reported crimes and ongoing investigations may affect final outcomes.

The latest crime figures are released with a 30-day delay to allow for data verification. Local authorities continue to encourage community involvement in crime prevention efforts to help create a safer environment for all residents.
