Shepton Mallet Community Fridge is now open

By Emma Dance 12th Sep 2022

Shepton Mallet Community Fridge is now open.

The official opening ceremony took place on Saturday (September 10) with the chairman of Shepton Mallet Town Council, Matt Harrison, helping to cut the ribbon.

The Community Fridge is next to the pedestrian crossing between Tesco and Aldi, and is available for everyone to use.

The primary aim of the fridge is to help reduce food waste, and there are no criteria for who can and can't take food.

At the moment, due to hygiene regulations, food can only be donated from businesses with a five-star hygiene rating via official Community Fridge volunteers, although it is hoped that this may change in the future.

One of the team of volunteers leading the project, Victoria Ross, said: "Thank you so much to allwho have supported this venture and enabled us to achieve the goal of opening a community fridge for the people of Shepton Mallet. Now, please help us by spreading the word and telling everyone you know!"

The Fridge is currently open from 9am to 5pm (approximately) with the aim of opening longer when there are more volunteers.

If you would like to volunteer or find out more about the Community Fridge, you can email [email protected].
