Shepton Mallet among slowest places in Somerset to sell a house, new data shows

Shepton Mallet has been named one of the slowest housing markets in Somerset, with new data showing it takes an average of 158 days to sell a property in the BA4 postcode area.
The figures, published by property firm Property Solvers, reveal that Shepton shares the second-slowest spot with Taunton (TA3), with only Martock (TA12) faring worse, where homes took 160 days on average to sell over the past year.
The statistics cover sales completed between March 2024 and March 2025, with over 1,100 transactions analysed across the region.
By contrast, homes in Somerton sold the quickest, averaging just 121 days on the market. This was followed by southern Bath and surrounding villages (BA2), where homes sold in 122 days.
Ruban Selvanayagam, co-founder of Property Solvers, said: "While Somerset's overall house sale times remain in line with historical trends, there are encouraging signs that greater adoption of tech-driven efficiencies by industry stakeholders will help reduce transaction lengths."
He also noted that many buyers had been keen to complete purchases before 1 April, ahead of the reintroduction of the 2% Stamp Duty Land Tax band.
