Senior town council job closes in Shepton Mallet as second key role remains open

Shepton Mallet Town Council is preparing to interview candidates for one of its most senior posts, while applications remain open for a second key role.

Applications for the Chief Officer, also known as Town Clerk, closed at midnight on Thursday, 2 July, with interviews due to take place during the week beginning Monday, 13 July.

The council is also continuing to recruit for a Deputy Chief Officer and Responsible Financial Officer, with applications open until midnight on Friday, 10 July. Interviews for that post are expected to take place during the week beginning Monday, 20 July.

Both roles are senior positions within the town council, which is responsible for a range of local services and community facilities in Shepton Mallet.

The Chief Officer is the council's most senior member of staff and is responsible for helping councillors turn decisions into action, overseeing day-to-day operations, managing staff and ensuring the council meets its legal responsibilities.

The Deputy Chief Officer and Responsible Financial Officer role includes supporting the Chief Officer, helping with the council's strategic work and overseeing financial management.

The Deputy Chief Officer post is full-time, at 37 hours a week, with a salary of £39,862 to £42,839. The council says hybrid working may be considered for administrative parts of the role.

The recruitment comes as Shepton Mallet Town Council continues work on its strategic plan and the delivery of local projects.

The council says the Deputy Chief Officer and Responsible Financial Officer will play a key role in supporting strategic leadership, financial stewardship and the day-to-day running of the organisation.
