Local firms are being asked to help put a smile on children's faces by backing a new community book hunt in Shepton Mallet's Collett Park.

Organisers say the family event is designed to get youngsters reading while enjoying the thrill of discovering free books hidden around the park. Every child who takes part will be able to take a book home — but that depends on local businesses stepping up to sponsor the scheme.

For a small donation, firms can cover the cost of books and, in return, have their name promoted on event materials and signage.

"This is a great way for businesses to show they care about the next generation of readers and to give families something special to enjoy," organisers said.

Any businesses keen to get involved are being encouraged to get in touch by emailing [email protected]
